Bill Blair brought back some fun memories of hikes up the trail to Timpanogas Cave with Uncle Walt. It is a pretty steep climb up the mountain to the entrance to the cave in American Fork Canyon. Walt would always be the first one to the top and leave the rest of us in the dust. How did he do it when he was so much older than us kids? The reward for making it up that hot, steep climb was walking through the cool, dark cave.
This may be an activity that some of the group may enjoy. You can reach American Fork Canyon from Park City by driving up to Sundance, over the Alpine Loop and down to the entrance to the hike to Timpanogas Cave. The hike to the cave is open from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm and it gets busy on weekends. Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and a sweater for the cave.
This link to Timpanogas Cave National Monument has more information. The picture below is of the "heart" of Timpanogas Cave.
Shake loose your caboose and all aboard for Park City!
